OUR STORY

At Yellow Belly Backpackers, our local staff is here to help you discover all the hidden gems in Belize and is ready to help you with everything from local recommendations to arranging tours and transportation. Founded in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic by Albert "Bubbles" and Meredith, our hostel has quickly become a popular spot for travelers seeking adventure and fun since welcoming our first guest in the spring of 2021. Get to know our friendly staff who will go above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable!

HOSTEL HAPPENINGS

Yellow Belly Backpackers is the perfect destination for budget travelers who want to experience a lively and social atmosphere. Our hostel offers a variety of social activities, ranging from movie nights to live drumming to trivia nights to sunrise yoga! We also have our own Tour Operator, Yellow Belly Tours, allowing us to offer affordable tours to popular sights around San Ignacio, including guided tours Xunantunich and Cahal Pech, day trips to Mountain Pine Ridge, and the only free walking tour of San Ignacio, offered every Saturday morning. Join in on our daily happy hour from 5pm to 7pm and make new friends from all over the world, making for an unforgettable time in San Ignacio!

FINDING US

Your home away from home in the heart of Belize! Our hostel is conveniently located just minutes from the hustle & buslte of downtown San Ignacio and sits at the base of Cahal Pech Mayan temples. Enjoy the convenience of the nearby shops and restaurants or take advantage of our free bikes and scooter rentals to enjoy the surrounding area. With the main bus line just steps away, travelling downtown or to other parts of Belize is a breeze!

ARRIVING BY SHUTTLE

Enjoy the convenience of being dropped off right at our doorstep! We can help you book a shuttle from Belize City Water Taxi Terminal, Belize International Airport (PGIA), or Flores, Guatemala. 

ARRIVING BY LOCAL BUS

From Belize City Bus Terminal: Take a bus to Belmopan - Benque. Try to take an "Express" bus if possible to save yourself some times. Stay on the bus at the San Ignacio Welcome Center! Get off at the Cahal Pech roundabout to avoid a 10-15 minute walk up hill. If you do get off downtown, head towards the Police Station and prepare for an uphill walk or take a quick taxi ride.

From Melchor (Guatemala-Belize border): If you are taking a collectivo from Flores, Guatemala, once you cross the border, take a 15 minute tax ride to San Ignacio and inform the driver we are located by the Cahal Pech roundabout!
